SPM 026 | Self-Assessment of Aspiring Project Manager Jared Coffin

SPM 026 | Self-Assessment of Aspiring Project Manager Jared Coffin

Jared took the Myers Briggs personality test and SWOT self-assessment in an effort to help understand those things that he should focus on as he becomes a project manager.

During the Podcast

During this episode Naomi Caietti and I review the self-assessment results of these two test. As a result of the Myers Briggs test we discover that Jared is identified as an INFP personality. INFP represents Introversion (I), iNtuition (N), Feeling (F), and Perception (P). Naomi helps unpack those results to translate what that might mean to Jared and his goal of becoming a project manager.

Myers Briggs Personality Test

This personality test was developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Briggs and was based off of the work of C. G. Jung. This assessment helps identify your personality based on sixteen distinctive personality types. These sixteen personality types are derived from a combination of the four dichotomies listed below:

  • Favorite world – what is your focus Extraversion “E” or Introversion “I”?
  • Information – are you Sensing “S” or do you use Intuition “N”?
  • Decisions – when making decisions do you focus on Thinking “T” or Feeling “F”?
  • Structure – when dealing with the outside world are you Judging “J” or Perceiving “P”?

For those of you who are interested in discovering your own personality test results you can find out more and take the Myers Briggs Personality Test here.

Personal SWOT Analysis

Also during the podcast we reviewed Jared’s self-assessment using the SWOT method. Using this method you self-evaluate your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Naomi suggested that Jared work further on his initial assessment by sitting down with others he knows to add to the assessment. Jared agreed to have some “coffee chats” with friends and associates and get their input to further develop Jared’s SWOT analysis.
