Terri Echegoyen and Mark Phillipy continue to study for the CAPM exam. In this session we cover Chapter 6 Project Time Management of the PMBOK. This is the fifth session in the mentoring series “Preparing for the CAPM”. Mark and Terri study together out of the fifth edition of the PMBOK as Terri gets ready to take the CAPM exam.

Predecessors & Successors

The precedence diagramming method (PDM) is a technique used to build schedules using logical relationships including the concepts of predecessors and successors. PDM includes four types of relationships:

  • Finish-to-start (FS)
  • Finish-to-finish (FF)
  • Start-to-start (SS)
  • Start-to-finish (SF)

You will also learn about how activities can lead or lag with respect to a predecessor or successor.

Estimation methods

You will also learn key methods used to estimate activities including the following techniques:

  • Analogous estimating
  • Parametric estimating
  • Three-point estimating
  • Reserve analysis

Scheduling Techniques

Some of the key scheduling techniques that were discussed are:

  • Critical Path Method
  • Critical Chain Method
  • Schedule Crashing
  • Schedule Fast Tracking
