The Project Management Institute (PMI®) is an organization that has established its leadership in providing a project management framework which project managers around the world prescribe to when managing projects. PMI® has documented the framework and its associated standards in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). Frankly the PMBOK® Guide isn’t the easiest read, however it is loaded with what it takes to up your project management game. The Sensible Project Manager will often refer to and teach the processes, tools, and techniques defined in the PMBOK® Guide. What does it mean to be an effective project manager?
It is the Sensible Project Managers conviction that you are being an effective project manager when you are leading projects in the most efficient and practical way and provide value to the customer when they need it. This requires the project manager to understand the vision of the project and the value its deliverables provide to the customer. The PM must then help the project team rally behind that vision and work out a plan which will deliver value to the customer in the most efficient way. When you can do this, you are being an effective project manager.
Through a study performed by PMI®, they estimate that 1.57 million new project management jobs will be created each year through the year 2020. To position yourself to be qualified for one of those positions, PMI® has established the Certified Associate in Project Management or CAPM® certification. This certifies to an employer that you have the knowledge about project management processes, tools and techniques to lead projects.
To help you prepare to take the CAPM® exam, I have developed the SensiblePM CAPM® Prep course. This course consists of 14 downloadable sessions and other study tools to help you pass the CAPM® exam. To learn more about the SensiblePM CAPM® Prep course select here.
